Øvrelid is known for his large-scale compositions. Spaces built from fragments of art history, into which he weaves objects with an almost theatrical precision. With lively, exacting brushstrokes, he constructs scenes whose very walls are made of religious processions, signs of miracles, pub scenes, myths of beauty bakeries, and carnivals.

In these teeming works, the visual language is rich and layered, opening onto endless possibilities for interpretation. The shifting narratives may point toward the unfathomable ground of consciousness itself, where mind, culture, and environment endlessly create one another, just as a tree becomes a forest.
