Echoes of Altitude - Tormod Granheim

Welcome to "Echoes of Altitude", a solo exhibition by Tormod Granheim at Galleri M35.

Unique photo exhibition from adventurer

The exhibition takes the audience on a visual journey through some of the world's most spectacular mountain areas, captured through the lens of one of the most adventurous and experienced mountain sports athletes of our time.

Granheim has spent decades in contact with the mountains – both as a climber, skier and photographer. He was the first to ski down Everest’s North Face, and as the first Nordic climber he climbed all 82 peaks over 4,000 meters in the Alps – an achievement that earned him the title of Adventurer of the Year. The camera has followed him all the way, from expeditions in the Himalayas to quiet days in the Alps, and his work has been published in National Geographic and exhibited at the Munch Museum, among others.

Today, photography is his primary expression, where nature and especially the mountain are both motifs and resonance spaces. Kunzt.no has described Granheim as an artist who makes “some of the most exciting photographic art we have seen in a while”.

With Echoes of Altitude, the audience is invited to experience the dual nature of the mountain – the beautiful and poetic, but also the dark and untamed. The exhibition shows how time, memories and experience shape the gaze, and how photography can accommodate both documentation and interpretation. The result is a series of images that not only show the landscape, but also reflect human experiences – an artistic dialogue between the mountain, time and the viewer.
