Bortenfor - Mona Eckhoff Sørmo og Torkild Iversen
New Exhibition at Gallery M35
Torkild Iversen's paintings are characterized by the blue hour, twilight and the magical presence of nature. He works figuratively and lifelike, but filters the mountain motifs through the darkness and changing light, so that the landscapes appear both recognizable and enigmatic. The winter mountains are built up with traditional painting techniques in oil on canvas or wood, where monochrome blue tones and earthy colors dominate. Through subtle contrasts and values, the weight and depth of the mountains are emphasized, and the tension between soft snow and hard rock formations. The result is quiet, powerful landscapes that carry a sense of timeless tranquility.
Mona Eckhoff Sørmo works across several expressions – painting, drawing, photography, installation and illustration – and her artistic practice examines human existence in the face of nature's larger contexts. In the series Underveis she explores humans in the face of the infinite and untouched. The wandering figure in the landscape becomes a metaphor for life's journey: we move alone or together, light or with heavy baggage, always towards a horizon that both beckons and remains out of reach.
Together, the artists create a space for reflection. Where Iversen's landscape conveys the quiet weight and dark light of nature, Eckhoff's work points towards the inner journey of man. In the meeting between them, a poetic landscape arises - a place between the outer and the inner, between nature and experience, between what we see and what lies beyond.
The exhibition "Bortenfor.." opens on Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 PM in gallery M35 on Tjuvholmen. Refreshments will be served by the glass and both artists will be present. The exhibition can be seen in the gallery until March 29.
